Couple turns their home into a museum for Barzan genocide victims
BAZEI, Kurdistan Region – A couple has turned their home into a museum to document the genocidal campaign of the Baath regime against the Barzanis.
Rezan Salih and Rebwar Ramazan have thousands of documents and photographs in their house. They have also written a number of books about the campaign that left thousands of Barzanis dead.
“When a foreigner comes to our house, or a consul, or an ambassador, when they come, they find out what has befallen the Kurdish nation,” Rezan Salih told Rudaw.
She and her husband have worked for 13 years to create the museum in their home.
“These documents were from a number of writings and memories of my father. This encouraged me to work on the struggle of these innocent people. When I worked and followed up on them, I found a number of documents on the genocide of Barzani individuals,” said Rebwar Ramazan.
The museum is located in Bazei village of the Barzan region. The village lost 150 residents alongside over 8,000 Barzanis in the Anfal genocide.
Some 182,000 Kurds were killed in the Anfal genocidal campaigns of the regime of Saddam Hussein.
