Explosive-laden car kills two security officers on Kirkuk-Sulimani road
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – A car rigged with explosives en route to Sulimani from Kirkuk was intercepted by Kurdish security forces on Wednesday and the men inside arrested. Attempts to defuse the car bomb however killed two of the security forces and wounded two others a security source told Rudaw.
“The security forces has been informed about a terrorist attempt on Sulimani, so we sent our team to the first checkpoint of Kirkuk-Sulimani road and they stopped the car,” said Hassan Nuri, chief of Sulimani security forces.
“Unfortunately while our team was defusing the car bomb two of our members were killed and two others were wounded,” Nuri added.
The car was carrying 500kg of explosive materials Nuri said. The men attempting to carry out the plot have been detained.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attempted attack.
