Widow of ISIS leader charged for involvement in US aid worker’s death
The widow of former Islamic State (ISIS) leader who is being held in a Kurdish prison has been charged with involvement in the death of a US hostage in Syria.
US authorities said that Nisreen Assad Ibrahim Bahar, known as Umm Sayyaf was involved in a conspiracy against American aid worker Kayla Mueller who was abducted in Aleppo and killed last year.
Umm Sayyaf, 25, is currently in prison in the Kurdistan Region.
“Prosecutors say Sayyaf kept Ms Mueller captive, allowing her to be repeatedly raped by IS chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi,” BBC reported.
US commando’s killed Umm Sayyaf’s husband, Abu Sayyaf, who was a senior ISIS leader and the group’s minister for oil and gas.
The commandos then captured Umm Sayyaf and handed her over to the Kurdish security.
"We will always be relentless in our efforts to identify, locate and arrest those who are responsible for the kidnappings and murders of American citizens," said FBI Assistant Director in Charge, Paul Abbate, according to BBC news.
Mueller who had travelled to Syria to work as an aid worker was kidnapped in 2013 and her Syrian boyfriend was once suspected of involvement in her abduction.
“We will sentence her based on fair and legal standards,” Kurdistan Region’s judicial council spokesman Umed Mohsin told Rudaw last August.
