ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Damaged by recent flash flooding, IDP camps and villages around war-torn Mosul will soon receive aid from the Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF) following a plea to the charity’s patron, Masoud Barzani, from Mosul mayor Zuhar Araji.
“President Barzani agreed to the call and ordered the Barzani Charity Foundation to reach out to the affected people of the Mosul flash flooding,” read a statement from the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) president on Saturday.
In a statement issued on Friday, Araji called on Barzani to help people of Salamiyah and Nimrud refugee camps.
“I call on [KDP] President Masoud Barzani to help out Salamiyah and Nimrud camps as well as nearby villages which are flooded due to the rain,” Araji said.
Aid items in particular demand are food and blankets.
Recent days have seen a deluge of heavy rain, causing significant damage to roads and infrastructure. IDP and refugee camps, as well as isolated villages, have borne the brunt as temporary structures are swept away and unpaved roads reduced to mud.
