ERBIL, Kurdistan Region—Turkey has again struck at Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) positions in northern Kurdistan Region, according to unnamed military sources cited by Reuters.

Turkish aircraft reportedly hit four locations in the mountainous area, including Qandil, targeting bunkers, ammunition depots, and gun installations, early Sunday morning, in what may be the second foray of Turkish planes into Kurdistan Region’s territory in less than four days.

On Thursday, at least six Turkish warplanes targeted the same region, hitting the outskirts of the town of Sidakan. The mayor of Sidakan, Karwan Karim, told Rudaw at the time that there were no casualties.

“Areas struck by the bombings are unpopulated and due to constant bombings have not been reconstructed yet,” Karim said.

Turkey has been sporadically bombing PKK bases inside the Kurdistan Region in the wake of the resumption of clashes between Ankara and the Kurdish guerrillas in July 2015.

The PKK has some 5,000 guerrilla soldiers stationed mostly in the remote, mountainous areas of the Kurdistan Region bordering Turkey.

Turkey is also conducting operations against the PKK in the Kurdish-dominated southeast of the country. The military is waging an urban campaign, imposing curfews on Kurdish towns in order to, it claims, clear them of militants.

Three Turkish soldiers were killed on Sunday in Nusaybin when a home-made explosive device detonated while the soldiers were searching a house, Reuters reported.
