Kurdistan’s cancer doctor bringing treatment options local

Visit an oncologist in the Kurdistan Region and there's a good chance the specialist may have been a student of Dr. Anwar Sheikha. One hundred and eight of his former students are now in practice, including all six of Mosul’s cancer specialists.

He believes cancer must be treated in local cities as it costs less and the patients are with family members.

Dr. Sheikha, 64, has now decided to open a hospital of his own.

On the occasion of World Cancer Day earlier this week, the KRG announced it had earmarked $20 million to combat cancer in the Kurdistan Region.
