ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) issued a statement on Saturday clarifying that it did not attack the Kurdistan Region Peshmerga and expressed regret over the incident that killed one and injured several.
“Our forces did not engage in an attack. The camp where our guerrillas were stationed was infiltrated from two sides. The incident took place on this basis. We regret that such an incident has even taken place, since we had issued a call to avoid such incidents in our previous statements and warnings,” read a statement from their press office.
On Wednesday, one Peshmerga was killed and at least two others were wounded by an improvised explosive device (IED) in northern Duhok province. The PKK claimed responsibility, saying it was a warning to stop Peshmerga forces from trying to enter their camps.
“We reiterate our call for the suspension of operations on our camps and solution of all our problems through dialogue,” read the PKK statement.
