At least two Iranian Kurdish Peshmerga killed in clashes with gov't forces

ERBIL, Kurdistan region - At least two Peshmerga soldiers of the Kurdistan Democratic Party-Iran (KDP-I) were killed in renewed clashes with Iranian Revolutionary Guards in villages of the predominantly Kurdish city of Sardasht. 

“Last night a group of our Peshmerga soldiers were ambushed by the Iranian forces near the Bolfat area, killing two Peshmerga named Azad Ali and Amir Nadir,” the KDP-I council said in a statement.

“We have not gathered information on the Iranian forces,” it added.

Iran has recently increased its military activity in the border areas of its eastern borders, especially in Shno, Sardasht and Piranshar.

Tehran frequently puts pressure on political parties in the Kurdistan Region of northern Iraq, asking them to influence the Iranian Kurdish forces to bring an end to their attacks inside Iran. 

With some 2,000 Peshmerga forces based in remote bordering areas, the KDP-I is historically considered the most formidable military organization opposing the Islamic Republic in Tehran.
