ISIS attacks oil tanker in Diyala

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — Islamic State fighters on the Khanaqin-Naftkhana road in northern Diyalah province successfully attacked an oil tanker and killed three of its drivers, local authorities told Rudaw.

A fourth driver managed to escape.

“A group of ISIS militants opened fire on the oil tanker, killing three people in it, and then they set fire to the tanker. One of the drivers managed to escape from the militants,” Mohammed Mullah Hussain, the Khanaqin mayor, told Rudaw Wednesday.

He added security forces had interviewed the fourth driver. The shooting occurred near an Iraqi army base.

The tanker attack follows claims made Tuesday by the Iraqi Ministry of Defense that the national army had seized control of an Islamic State base believed to be the jihadis' largest in Diyala province.
