KDP, PUK agree to prepare united program in Baghdad
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – The politburos of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) met in Erbil on Wednesday to discuss united efforts in the Baghdad parliament and preparations for Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections in September.
Both parties stressed the need to hold elections for the Kurdistan parliament on the scheduled date of September 30, according to PUK media.
In an effort to overcome past animosity, the KDP and PUK agreed not to take any unilateral steps in either the Kurdistan Region or in Baghdad.
KRG Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani and Mala Bakhtiar, head of the PUK’s executive body, were present at the meeting.
They agreed to form a committee to prepare a joint program to further Kurdish rights and representation in Baghdad.
