When ISIS took control of Mosul in mid-2014, they virtually banned all recreational activities, swimming included. Residents say that most of Mosul’s pools were closed down due to the strict restrictions of the militant group.
Now, even with the effects of war still visible, life is slowly returning back to normal. The people of Mosul are again allowed access to the freedom and enjoyment of swimming.
