ISIS forces Iraqi army back from strategic Makhmour village, killing 20 soldiers, wounding 30
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - At least 20 Iraqi army soldiers were killed
and 35 others wounded in an Islamic State (ISIS) counterattack on the
village of al-Nasr which was retaken from the group earlier Monday, said a Rudaw reporter from the scene.
"In an ISIS counter assault against the Iraqi army in al-Nasr, 20 soldiers were killed and 35 others wounded," said the reporter.
The Iraqi army withdrew from the village.
"ISIS militants returned to the village of al-Nasr and the Iraqi army retreated," the reporter added.
Several military vehicles of the Iraqi forces are destroyed and left behind.
With fresh reinforcements the Iraqi army resumed its push to retake the strategic village of Nasser early on Monday as Kurdish Peshmerga forces foiled a suicide bomber who somehow evaded Iraqi lines for an intended attack on the Kurds.
