KOBANE BORDER— In a series of attacks on Islamic State (ISIS) positions in Kobani on Friday Kurdish forces managed to retake the city’s industrial zone from the militants and build a defense line, said Rudaw correspondent.

Omer Kalo, Rudaw correspondent in Syrian Kurdistan (Rojava) said that the Peoples Protection Units (YPG) fighters attacked the zone that lies in the northern part of the town and expel the militants who had been positioned there for three months.

The bodies of many ISIS militants lay scattered among the rubble and in the alleys after the confrontations ended, Kalo said.

According to the YPG, 21 ISIS militants were killed in the clashes.

According to Kalo, the Kurdish fighters launched their attack on three fronts which helped them to overpower the radical militants.

The Kurdish fighters said the aim of Friday’s attacks were to get closer to the Mistanur hills outside the city and eventually reclaim it from the militants.

“With this success we have opened the way to Mistenur Hill,” YPG commander Alişer Agiri told Firatnews.

Kalo reported that as the YPG fighters engaged the Islamist militants, the Peshmerga forces pounded the ISIS positions with rockets and heavy artillery.

Currently 150 Peshmerga soldiers are in Kobani to assist the YPG defend and ultimately liberate the Kurdish city from ISIS militants who invaded the border city in early September.
