Sarchinar resort near Suli famous for its gardens

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — Located near Sulaimani, the Sarchinar resort with its famous gardens and architecture has been conjuring memories among its visitors for generations.

Founded by a Kurdish prince in 1784, the site passed to Ottoman control before being opened to the public as a resort following the end of Turkish rule.

Poets have written of Sarchinar’s beauty, and its staff of gardeners and groundskeepers feels privileged to be part of its legacy.

“I planted this tree. When I see it has grown beautifully it makes me happy and it really reminds me of some great memories,” one gardener told Rudaw.
