Canadian PM Harper makes first visit to Erbil

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper has arrived Saturday in Erbil for key talks on military aid and the regional war against the Islamic State, Kurdish officials have told Rudaw. 

According to the Ministry of Foreign Relations of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Harper is scheduled to hold talks with Kurdish President Masoud Barzani and Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani. 
Earlier on Saturday, Harper met in Baghdad with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.

Canada, a member of the international coalition formed to fight ISIS in Iraq and Syria, has reportedly deployed dozens of Canadian Armed Forces and many tons of military supplies to Iraq and the Kurdistan region. At least 69 Canadian military experts are currently training Peshmerga forces.

Canada has also contributed $15 million to support security measures in the region, according to reports.
