Rojava Asayish arrest Kurdish National Council official: monitor

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Faysal Yusuf, a member of the Kurdish National Council (KNC or ENKS), was arrested on Monday at his home in Qamishli by Asayish forces, a conflict monitor has claimed.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights demanded the “immediate release” of the Kurdish official, adding that this is not the first time the Peoples' Protection Units (YPG)’s Asayish forces have arrests Kurdish political leaders for “opposing their plans, visions and ideas.”

Yusuf is also the coordinator of the Kurdish Reform Movement in Rojava.

Jadan Ali, head of ENKS representation in the Kurdistan Region, confirmed Yusuf’s arrest to Rudaw English.

“Last night, at 01:00 a.m., three vehicles full of armed men [came and] entered his house in Qamishli and told him ‘We are from the General Asayish,’” and took him.

Ali said Yusuf suffers with poor health, including diabetes, a heart condition and other ailments.

He said Yusuf’s brother and son brought his medicine to the prison, but were not allowed in. Instead they were told the Asayish themselves would give it to him.
