Muslims in Erbil's mosques practiced Laylat al-Qadr, otherwise known as the Night of Power, on Friday night.

Muslims believe Laylat al-Qadr marks the anniversary of the revelation of the first verse of the Holy Quran to the Prophet Mohammed. It falls in the last ten days of Ramadan, most often on the 27th night of the month.

According to Islamic belief, it is a night is one of concentrated blessings; the performance of prayer and pursuit of the understanding of Islamic teachings is said to be worth more on Laylat al-Qadr than in a thousand months.

Worshippers perform collective prayers, read Quran and listen to sermons given by Mullahs, men educated in religious law and doctrine.
