PM Barzani's trip to London a 'great success': UK Consul General to Erbil
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The UK Consul General to Erbil David Hunt spoke to Rudaw's Payam Sarbast on Tuesday from the University of Kurdistan-Hewler (UKH) in the Kurdistan Region’s capital, at an event to mark the completion of the university’s “English Language Training Programme for Peshmerga Officers.”
Discussing the Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani's recent trip to London, an event that he was closely involved in assisting, the Consul General summarised the visit as a "great success," and said he hoped to build upon the visit to do some “really exciting and innovative things together” in the Region.
Questioned about the Kurdistan Region’s plans to export gas to European countries, the British official said that it is "now for energy companies to become involved" in the development of the Region's gas sector in as "environmentally friendly" way as possible.
Hunt also expressed his support for security sector reforms in Iraq, praising the Peshmerga, and his hope for a swift government formation process after the Ramadan period. “Iraq requires good governance,” he said.
The official ended the interview by wishing viewers a happy Eid, in Kurdish.
