One Woman and Three Cultures

Hanna Jaff is a young Mexican politician. But she hails from a slightly more diverse background: a Kurdish father, a Mexican mother, and an American birthplace.

Hanna’s story is one of success: In Mexico, she’s the deputy secretary for migration at the ruling party, PRI, or the Institutional Revolutionary Party. She’s also the president and founder of the Jaff Foundation for Education. In America, she finished her studies at Harvard and Columbia, two of the world’s best universities.

In this one-on-one interview, Rudaw asks her about her cultural roots, Kurdish nationalism and the sense of belonging among the expats, immigration, cultural assimilation and many more contemporary issues that face Hanna and many immigrants worldwide.
