Michael Knights an Analyst and Fellow at the Washington Institute spoke to Rudaw’s Diyar Kurda in March about Iranian attacks on the Kurdish capital of Erbil and its implications on the wider region.

Knights is specialized in the military and security issues in Iraq, Iran, and the Gulf states. He is also a co-founder of the Militia Spotlight platform, aimed at offering in-depth analysis on Iran-backed militia groups in Iraq and Syria.

“The primary message is for Israel, even now there is no proof that Israeli agents were in the Kurdistan Region,” Knights said about the attack, adding that it was also a message to the United States. He also talks about the ongoing negotiations to restore the 2015 nuclear deal, and how this explains the limited response by the US in the aftermath of the attack.
