Iraq will meet only 15 percent of its water needs by 2035: UN official

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - By 2035, Iraq will only be able to meet 15 percent of its water needs, a United Nations official warned, pointing to a growing population and worsening climate conditions.

“If Iraq does not prioritize, or if Iraq does not address the water issue by 2035, Iraq would only be able to meet 15 percent of its water needs,” Ghulam Mohammed Isaczai, the UN secretary-general’s deputy special representative for Iraq, told Rudaw’s Nwenar Fatih in April.
