Russians discover Kurdish culture at Moscow film festival

MOSCOW, Russia — Russia's first Kurdish film festival kicked off in Moscow on Wednesday. 

Rudaw is sponsoring the event, also supported by the Russian Ministry of Culture and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). 

The festival was held at the city’s Karo Otyabr cinema, with 35 films and documentaries shown over the five-day event. 

Both Kurds and Russians were in attendance. 

"It’s very, very interesting and very important," said Nikolay Garmiza, a lecturer and Moscow State Art and Cultural University. 

One attendee said they came to learn more about the Kurds. 

"To my shame I have never heard a lot about this nationality, this people," said lecturer Anastasiya.

The aim of the festival is to introduce the history and the culture of the Kurds to the world.
