Equestrian festival kicks off in Sulaimani
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — An equestrian festival began in the city of Sulaimani on Friday.
The Chaqo Kuli tribe held the festival to bring back Kurdish equestrian customs.
“Our aim in holding this kind of festival is to revive the tradition,” said festival organizer Halo Najat. “Our ancestors used to have it but they abandoned it due to the hardship Kurds have faced, now we’ve started it again.”
A hundred horseback riders from tribes in Sulaimani, Kirkuk and Garmiyan took part in the event.
