A café has been opened in the museum created in the preserved former home of Sofi Karim Sarraj in Sulaimani’s Sabunkaran old city.

The house was built in 1898. It was the home of well-loved and respected businessman Sarraj from 1928 until his death in 1960.

It was opened as a museum in 2016, preserving many of the building’s architectural features and showcasing Kurdish relics and artifacts.

The new café offers local food such as kofta, ganmakutrau (mashed wheat), and dolma. The comfortable atmosphere also draws people wanting to play dominos or tawla (backgammon).
