Hundreds of residents of Qamishli, northeastern Syria, attended a concert by the Rojava Orchestra on Sunday to celebrate the third anniversary of its founding.
The celebration was held at the predominantly Kurdish city’s Mohammed Sheikho Center for Culture and Art.
Rojava Orchestra, founded on September 24, 2016, is the first specialized children's musical academy in the region. The children play instruments provided by Rojava’s Committee for Art and Culture, under the supervision of specialized musicians.
"This is a very nice gesture, given Rojava’s difficult situation. I really never thought I would see an orchestra here other than on television. Despite circumstances, we see something very beautiful," says Nazdar, a mother of two participating musicians.
