MEDYKA, Poland - A sixty year old artist from Mexico paints on the walls of the Polish village of Medyka where many displaced Ukrainians stay once they flee war and enter Polish territories. Roberto Marquez, a 60 year old artist from Mexico is on the border town of Medyka with Ukrainian refugees. He has been painting incredible murals, giving refugees a small glimpse of happiness as the war continues in their homeland. Marquez voluntarily illustrates the invasion of Russia on Ukraine through his paintings in Medyka. He turns the destruction fo the invasion of Russia into colorful paintings on the walls of the village Marquez has been working on a painting for five days and his plan is to finish it after ten intensive days of work. He hopes to expand his artworks and create more in either Kyiv or Lviv. He claims that his aim is solely to put a smile on the face of the Ukrainian refugees in the camp. Thursday marked the one-month anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The widely condemned war has led to massive destruction and displaced millions of Ukrainians, including more than half of the country's estimated 7.5 million child population, a United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) statement on Thursday said. An estimated 3.5 million Ukrainians have fled the country and another 6.5 million have been internally displaced inside Ukraine since Russian President Vladmir Putin declared war on his neighbor. This altogether accounts for a quarter of Ukraine's 44 million people. Battles continue to rage across Ukraine. Around 300 people were killed in a Russian airstrike on a theater in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol on Friday, making it the war's deadliest known attack on civilians thus far.
