In Erbil, thousands of sheep, goats and cattle were sacrificed on Tuesday. Muslims sacrifice the animals to follow the story of Abraham, the founder of the Abrahamic religions.
In Islam, the story goes that Ibrahim had dreamt of sacrificing his son, Ishmael.
This constituted a command from Allah to sacrifice his son, Ishmael, for the sake of Allah. When Abraham, due to his reverence and devotion to Allah, didn’t refrain from doing so, his knife became dull.
With Allah sure of his commitment, He stopped Abraham, and an angel came down with a scapegoat. Thus, from this, the ritualistic sacrificing animals was born.
The population of the Kurdistan Region is estimated to be 98 percent Kurdish Sunni. This year, the demand was down in the Kurdistan Region for Eid animal sacrifices, leading to lower prices.
