Komala says six members injured in Iranian attack in Erbil province

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A fresh Iranian missile attack against the Komala Toilers Party of Kurdistan (Komala) in Erbil province injured six of its members on Wednesday, a party official said. The strikes come amid the latest escalation in the US-Iran war.

Komala is one of the Iranian Kurdish opposition groups based in the Kurdistan Region.

The attack targeted one of the group's bases in the Alana valley in Erbil province's Soran administration.

"The missiles that targeted the Komala base was Khaybar Karar, and unfortunately, six Peshmerga have been injured thus far," Amjad Hussein Panahi, head of party's communications, told Rudaw.

Iran has attacked the group with 94 missiles and drones since the start of the US-Israel war against Iran on February 28.

Panahi did not disclose the condition of the injured Peshmerga. However, a source from Komala, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the six injured Peshmerga had been taken to hospital, noting that "their wounds are not severe."

Karwan Sherzad, head of Khalifan hospital, told Rudaw that the facility had received some of the injured.

This is the third such attack on Komala in less than a week.

The Iranian Kurdish parties based in the Kurdistan Region have largely stayed on the sidelines of the US and Israeli conflict with Iran. Despite abstaining from the war, they and the Kurdistan Region have been a primary target for Iran and its aligned "Islamic Resistance of Iraq" militias since February 28.

According to Rudaw's records, Iran and its aligned groups in Iraq have struck the Kurdistan Region with at least 927 drones since the war began. The cross-border attacks have killed 30 people and injured 148 others. Nearly 50 drones and missiles hit the Region in the first three weeks of July.

The Kurdistan Region has declared its neutrality, calling for restraint and dialogue to resolve the conflict. Iraq and the Kurdistan Region have both incurred massive financial damage as a result of the war.

On Wednesday, following a weekly cabinet meeting, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) reiterated its condemnation of Iran's continued attacks on the Kurdistan Region.

"Such attacks take as their target not only the security and stability of the Kurdistan Region, but the stability of the whole region," the Kurdish government said in a statement.

"The Council of Ministers reiterates that it has not been part of the war or the tensions in the region, having always worked to remain a factor of stability, peace and security, so we want the attacks to end," it added.
