ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Arab Board of Health Specializations (ABHS) has selected Erbil as a venue for its maxillofacial surgery certification test this year for the second time since 2023, the speciality’s training center in the province said on Thursday, citing Erbil hospitals’ commitment to globally-approved standards.
Osman Abubakr, the head of the Arab Board Training Center for Maxillofacial surgery at Rizgary Hospital in Erbil, told Rudaw that “26 board students have come from various Arab countries, including Iraq, Egypt, Syria, Libya, Palestine, the UAE, Jordan, Algeria, Tunisia, Sudan, and others.”
He noted that the selection of the Kurdistan Region’s capital to administer tests in the speciality testifies that the city is “well-qualified to host the board exams, where doctors from Arab countries can obtain their board certifications.”
The examinations commenced on Thursday and will conclude on Saturday.
ABHS is an official health organization founded by the Council of Arab Health Ministers under the Arab League. Established in 1978, it aims to improve healthcare services across the Arab world by standardizing and elevating the educational, practical, and clinical capabilities of healthcare professionals.
The Arab Board covers over 50 specialties and subspecialties. Training typically lasts four to six years, depending on the specialty.
While Maxillofacial Surgery is holding its exams there for only the second time, Erbil routinely hosts final written, practical, and clinical Arab Board examinations across a wide range of major medical and surgical specialties.
