US Takes Different Stance From Turkey On Syrian Kurds

Washington D.C -- On Monday, September 20, Deputy Spokesperson for the United States Department of State, Marie Harf, declared that the pro-Kurdish rebels of PYD in Syria, who follow the same ideology as PKK's, did not similarly constitute a terrorist group under the U.S. law.

"The PYD is a different group than the PKK legally under the United States law," said Harf, opening more doors for the US and potentially other Western countries to provide more military and humanitarian support to the besieged Kurds in Syria.

That position is also at odds with that of America's NATO ally, Turkey, whose President Erdogan said days ago that PYD was a "terrorist" group and that any military support for the group was considered "unacceptable."

In the video posted above, you would see an exchange between me and Ms. Harf on a number of questions related to Kobane, Turkish position on the Islamic State and the crucial role Kurds play in the global fight against terrorism.
